Oct 21-25

This week in music, grade 1/2 students continued to learn new seasonal songs while accompanying themselves on the xylophones. They have been learning to identify different instrument families, focusing this week on the woodwind family. Students started playing the djembe drum this week. They reviewed bass and open tones as well as the universal break. Grade 3/4 students continue to prepare for our Remembrance Day Assembly, adding chimes to accompany their singing. They also have been reviewing tones and rhythms on the djembe drum. Due to the swimming schedule, Kindergarten students did not receive music this week. Performing Arts Club Performing Arts Club had their second meeting this week. We will have all students parts assigned by the next rehearsal!

Oct 7-10

This week in music, students from grade 1 -4 finished performing their rhythm compositions and played rhythm games to support their understanding of rhythm patterns.  Kindergarten and grade 1/2's  have been using orff instruments to accompany their singing of seasonal songs. Grade 3/4's have begun exploring songs to perform for the Remembrance Day Assembly.  Performing Arts Club Don't forget the Performing Arts Club begins this Tuesday!

Oct 1- 4

This week in music, Gr 1- 4 students focused on reading, writing and performing rhythm patterns. Through playing rhythm games and using instruments to play various patterns, students gained confidence in their note reading ability. At the end of the week they began writing their own 20 measure rhythm composition that they will perform for each other on Tuesday October 8th.  Gr 1/2 students used rhythms containing quarter, eighth and half notes (and rests), and Gr 3/4's  added sixteen note patterns to their compositions. Kindergarten students have also been learning about rhythm and are able to read and play patterns containing quarter and eighth notes (ta and ti ti). This week they learned to accompany their singing to the new song "Pumpkin pumpkin", on the xylophones. They continue to explore low and high sounds in music and in their environment.
