It's Christmas Carol Congratulations to all the students for putting on a wonderful performance yesterday! Students worked extremely hard on learning lines, dancing and singing songs for the play. All their hard work paid off and they put on a great show! Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their support to help make the show a success.

This week in music all students at Scenic Acres have been busy learning songs for the winter celebration. If your child is in the Performing Arts Club and has an acting role, we are asking that their parts be memorized by the first week of December. Any student that is having difficulty putting together a costume for the performance, please let me know so I can offer suggestions. We will be providing shirts for all students.

Please note that the matinee performance for our winter celebration is at 1:45 p.m. not 1:30 p.m. as indicated in my early blog. For confirmation I have listed the correct times below: Thursday December 12  Matinee: 1:45  (Doors open at 1:30) Evening: 6:30 (Doors open at 6:00)

Remembrance Day Assembly I would like to start off this week by commending all students at Scenic Acres for their outstanding performance at the Remembrance Day Assembly.  In the weeks leading up to the assembly, students were focused and passionate about  preparing songs, poetry, and art work to honor our veterans. They showed perseverance while learning new and difficult material that they performed with mastery. Thank you to all parents who attended the service. Thursday December 12, is another day to mark on your calendars, as we will be presenting the musical  " It's Christmas Carol" , in a matinee and evening performance (1:30 and 6:30).  All Kindergarten to Grade 4 students are currently working on the songs and choreography to the play, while the actors and the dancers from the Performing Arts Club continue to rehearse at lunch time. This week in music, grade 1/2 students continued to learn new seasonal songs while accompanying themselves on the xylophones. They have been learning to identify different instrument families, focusing this week on the woodwind family. Students started playing the djembe drum this week. They reviewed bass and open tones as well as the universal break. Grade 3/4 students continue to prepare for our Remembrance Day Assembly, adding chimes to accompany their singing. They also have been reviewing tones and rhythms on the djembe drum. Due to the swimming schedule, Kindergarten students did not receive music this week. Performing Arts Club Performing Arts Club had their second meeting this week. We will have all students parts assigned by the next rehearsal!

This week in music, students from grade 1 -4 finished performing their rhythm compositions and played rhythm games to support their understanding of rhythm patterns.  Kindergarten and grade 1/2's  have been using orff instruments to accompany their singing of seasonal songs. Grade 3/4's have begun exploring songs to perform for the Remembrance Day Assembly.  Performing Arts Club Don't forget the Performing Arts Club begins this Tuesday!

This week in music, Gr 1- 4 students focused on reading, writing and performing rhythm patterns. Through playing rhythm games and using instruments to play various patterns, students gained confidence in their note reading ability. At the end of the week they began writing their own 20 measure rhythm composition that they will perform for each other on Tuesday October 8th.  Gr 1/2 students used rhythms containing quarter, eighth and half notes (and rests), and Gr 3/4's  added sixteen note patterns to their compositions. Kindergarten students have also been learning about rhythm and are able to read and play patterns containing quarter and eighth notes (ta and ti ti). This week they learned to accompany their singing to the new song "Pumpkin pumpkin", on the xylophones. They continue to explore low and high sounds in music and in their environment.
